Science Concept Series
Ages 5-9
The Science Sparks Concept Series is a comprehensive, hands-on STEM program designed to help children build a deep understanding of the fundamental concepts that shape the world around them. Rather than simply memorizing facts, children discover why things happen through engaging demonstrations, experiments, discussions, journaling, and take-home activities that encourage scientific thinking.
The series is divided into two 10-workshop parts, allowing children to progressively build their knowledge across life science, physical science, chemistry, Earth science, and environmental science.
Part 1 introduces children to exciting topics including DNA & Genetics, Animal Cells, Density, Sound, Forces (Gravity, Magnetism & Friction), Light, Changing Earth, Chemistry, Separation Techniques, and the fascinating world of Glow in the Dark (Fluorescence, Phosphorescence, Chemiluminescence, and Bioluminescence).
Part 2 continues the journey with Human Body Systems (Digestion & Nutrition, Heart, Lungs & Brain, Bones, Muscles & Teeth), Plant Cells, Germs & Health, Science of Smell (Olfaction), Solar System & Space, Weather, Conservation & Recycling, Ecosystems & Food Chains, and Polymers, where children even create their own slime while learning the chemistry behind it.
Each workshop is carefully designed to develop curiosity, observation, hypothesis building, communication, and critical thinking. Children maintain science journals, participate in Scientist Circle discussions, and leave every session with a stronger understanding of scientific concepts and the confidence to explain them.
Together with the Scientist's Toolbox Series, the Concept Series provides a strong foundation for children interested in pursuing science competitions such as the NorthSouth Foundation Junior Science Bee, while, more importantly, helping them develop a lifelong appreciation for scientific inquiry.
Because real science starts with curiosity, not memorization.
Weekly themes
The workshop series will focus on one STEM concept every week. Over the course of 20 weeks (Part 1 & 2) core STEM concepts covering Elementary Science Curricula (Normal & Competitive) will be covered.
Take-home Science
A signature ScienceSparks approach is to make sure our young scientists leave the workshop with take-home activities and kits to practice and reinforce the concepts they learned in the workshop. The kits are included in the price of the workshop!
Theory + Demos
The workshop will focus on correct understanding of core STEM concpets through a practical (daily life focussed) lens, real life examples, demos and fun activities during the workshop.
Building Young Scientists
Our goal is not just to teach Science but to develop a Scientific temperament from a young age. To ensure our young scientists stay engaged with Science we introduce concepts such as weekly Scientist Cirlces, Science Journalling, Active WhatsApp groups where parents can post curious questions and get voice answers!
